The Davis Cup is finally coming back to Vienna: absolute top stars and world-class tennis!

While Austria’s historical record against Belgium is flawless—five matches, five wins—this time we face a massive sporting challenge: It remains to be seen which lineup Belgium will bring to Vienna under captain Steve Darcis. One thing is clear, though: The Belgians have plenty of talent and could arrive with some absolute top-tier players. Players like Zizou Bergs and Alexander Blockx (both currently in the top 40 of the world rankings) are among the big names the Austrian team will need to keep a close eye on.
Who will actually be on the court for our team will also be decided just before the event…
…but ÖTV captain Jürgen Melzer has no shortage of top-tier options!

The potential lineup is led by Sebastian Ofner, our current No. 1 in Austria. The team could be rounded out by strong players like Filip Misolic, Jurij Rodionov, Joel Schwärzler, or Lukas Neumayer. A real ace up our sleeve is our world-class doubles team of Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler, who have also been playing together internationally again since this year!
Motivation within the red-white-red squad is likely already at a fever pitch following the thrilling away victory (3-2) against Japan in February. Back then, Rodionov and Neumayer, with nerves of steel, emerged as the big match-winners in the decisive singles matches. Belgium arrives on the back of a commanding victory over Bulgaria.
The soccer field is turning into a pop-up stadium!

The matches will take place at the Vienna Athletiksport Club (WAC), nestled in greenery near the Prater. The WAC was founded in 1896 and is one of the oldest sports clubs in the country. And now, for the very first time in its long history, it is hosting the Davis Cup!
The matches will be played on clay, as is traditional. This should give our guys the maximum home-court advantage and promises an unbeatable late-summer atmosphere. What could be better than watching top-level tennis outdoors on a warm summer day with a cold drink in hand?
