Anyone looking for the ultimate way to cool off on hot summer days should head up to the picturesque slopes of the Cobenzel. There you’ll find the city’s highest summer swimming pool, which has been strikingly built into a dense pine forest. Since the trees provide plenty of shade, it remains pleasantly cool even during record-breaking heat. Although the popular Krapfenwaldlbad in the 19th district opened as early as 1923, it has never lost its appeal.
The construction of the Wiener Höhenstraße in 1935 also significantly improved accessibility. After all, the view of Vienna’s sea of houses is a true classic, best enjoyed directly from the sports pool on the hill.

The area, which is a listed historic site, does indeed boast a history steeped in tradition. In the summer of 1979, it caused a sensation as the first topless beach, which inspired Rainhard Fendrich to write his famous Austropop hit. If you want to visit the pool this year, you should first check the digital Vienna Pool Traffic Light. This allows you to see in real time whether the maximum capacity of 4,500 people has already been reached. In addition, day passes and monthly passes can be purchased in the online shop, although remaining spots are usually available on-site at the ticket office.
In 2026, ticket prices for adults are 8.10 euros. Teens pay 4.60 euros, while older children are charged 2.80 euros. Admission is completely free for toddlers, however, so nothing stands in the way of a family outing. Finally, a restaurant and a buffet provide the necessary refreshments after swimming.
