An evening of world-class music usuallycomes with a hefty price tag at renowned concert halls. But there is this one day in early summer when you can listen to the sounds of the country’s most famous orchestra without paying a single cent. A wonderful opportunity to wind down after work in a historic setting. That’s exactly what will happen on June 19, 2026, starting at 8:45 p.m. The Vienna Philharmonic will once again perform in the sprawling palace park at the Schönbrunn Summer Night Concert. The grounds stretch out in front of the Gloriette and offer space for tens of thousands of music-loving visitors who mark this evening in red on their calendars every year.
Musically, a premiere awaits you this year, as Lorenzo Viotti conducts the orchestra for the first time. Welsh baritone Bryn Terfel will be the guest soloist. With his powerful voice, he will guide the audience through various musical eras.

From opera arias to classic musical numbers
This year’s program is a diverse musical treat featuring symphonic works, operettas, and ballets. Among other pieces, Bryn Terfel will perform the final aria from Richard Wagner’s “Rheingold” on the large open-air stage. He will also perform Tevye’s famous song from the musical “Fiddler on the Roof” by Jerry Bock.
The orchestra will perform instrumental masterpieces such as the overture to “The Light Cavalry” by Franz von Suppé. Works by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Giacomo Puccini are also on the packed program. This deliberate openness to various styles makes classical music accessible to everyone and adds a lighthearted touch to the evening.
Here’s how to get to your standing room spot stress-free

The best thing about this concert format: You don’t need any tickets for the entire, expansive standing area. If you want to secure a good view of the stage, you should aim to arrive around 5:00 PM. Wear comfortable shoes and be sure to use public transportation to get there, as parking spaces are scarce.
Note when planning your route: To access the grounds, you may only use the Hietzinger Tor or the Meidlinger Tor. If you can’t make it to the 13th district on Friday evening, ORF 2 will broadcast a live, time-delayed transmission directly to your couch starting at 9:20 p.m. One day later, 3sat will also broadcast the concert on June 20 at 8:15 p.m. on TV.
If you happen to miss the concert or don’t have time, there’s another concert series in Vienna that’s quite special. Hundreds of candles illuminate the room as an orchestra plays famous pieces.
