If you’re looking for true relaxation , the 140-kilometer drive to the Thermal & Volcano Region in Styria is well worth it. There, in the 1990s, the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser designed an entire, asymmetrical thermal village, consistently avoiding straight lines. The facades glow in a wide variety of bright colors, while real meadows and trees grow on the rounded roofs. The idea was to create a place where people and nature can coexist in harmony and to provide a special retreat.
Consequently, the organic architecture blends seamlessly into the green, rolling hills, so that you ’re not just strolling through a fairy-tale-like spa resort , but through a walk-in, sprawling work of art. At the heart of the complex lies the Vulkania healing spring, which bubbles up from a depth of about 3,000 meters. The highly mineralized primordial ocean water emerges at a staggering 104 degrees Celsius, which is used to heat the entire resort in an environmentally friendly manner.
Between 14 pools and Styrian nature
To bathe in the therapeutic lake, the water is cooled beforehand, while retaining its extremely high salt content of 17.6 grams per liter. In addition, the water temperatures in the 14 different indoor and outdoor pools range comfortably between 21 and 37 degrees Celsius. Even in winter, you’ll be surrounded by a cozy atmosphere in the warm outdoor area, as the dense steam rises visibly in the cold air.

In addition to enjoying the baths, you can go on a discovery tour, as small ceramic mosaics, golden onion domes, and intentionally uneven floors are hidden everywhere. For a regular day trip from Monday through Friday, expect an admission price of 41 euros for adults, while a late -evening ticket available starting at 5 p.m. costs 38.90 euros. The spacious thermal spa is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., so you can comfortably round off your visit with regional Styrian delicacies.
