Vienna is once again all about creative ideas. From September 25 to October 4, 2026 , Austria’s largest curated design festival will celebrate its 20th edition. If you want to know what future-proof design has to do with our everyday lives, if you’d like to take a peek behind the scenes at well-known Viennese workshops, or if you’re curious where the most exciting up-and-coming talents are exhibiting, you’ll find the answersspread across more than 60 venues throughout the city. VIENNA DESIGN WEEK makes world-renowned product design, sustainable architecture, and social innovations accessible to everyone—and admission is free.
A look behind the scenes of the city

The heart of the festival beats in the 13th district this year: an office tower on Hietzinger Kai—normally closed to the public—is being revitalized as the festival headquarters. Here you’ll find a colorful mix of international installations, prototypes to try out, and temporary pop-up cafés.
Tradition meets bold ideas
The “Passionswege” are particularly exciting: designers collaborate directly with traditional Viennese craft workshops. When modern design meets centuries-old traditions, surprising, one-of-a-kind pieces are created right in the historic workshops of the city center.
Design you can touch and engage with
Whether it’s recyclable materials, social design for public spaces, or interactive audio exhibitions—the program invites you not only to view design but also to actively help shape it. Workshops, tours, and open lab setups turn a visit to VIENNA DESIGN WEEK into a journey of discovery through unfamiliar corners of Vienna.
You can reach the festival headquarters at Hietzinger Kai in no time by taking the U4 subway line (Braunschweiggasse or Unter St. Veit stations). If you’re driving, take the Westeinfahrt (B1) toward the city center, but be sure to allow some time to find parking in the surrounding residential streets.
