Just under a 50-minute drive from Vienna, pop legend Falco secured a historic retreat in 1987. Following the worldwide breakthrough of “Rock Me Amadeus,” Hans Hölzel purchased a stately villa in the Kamptal to escape the spotlight. The estate, built between 1895 and 1896, served as a secluded summer retreat for him and his mother, Maria, far away from Viennese high society.
A Time Capsule in the Kamptal
After Falco’s fatal car accident on February 6, 1998, the property became the property of the newly established Falco Private Foundation. For more than 26 years, the living quarters, personal clothing, and numerous gold records remained completely untouched.

Following a restoration in accordance with historic preservation guidelines, regular guided tours began on June 8, 2024, at the Horner Straße location. For reasons of historic preservation, interested visitors may gain access—for an admission fee of approximately 29 euros—exclusively by advance reservation in small groups. The building’s history is also noteworthy: Pauline Lang, the mother of silent film pioneer Fritz Lang, once lived in this historic building.
The contrast to Vienna’s upscale neighborhoods

While Falco’s legacy is now carefully preserved as a museum, other celebrity properties in the city have made headlines for entirely different reasons. A prime example is Niki Lauda’s former residence in Döbling, featuring 1,000 m² of living space, an indoor swimming pool, and a 2,000 m² terraced hillside garden. In February 2018, a subsidiary of a foundation sold the property to a group of executives for 8.2 million euros, even though a real estate agent had previously quoted a price of 14 to 15 million euros.
The profitable resale of the Währing NSA villa, with its 4,782 m² lot, to Qatar for 9.0 million euros—as well as its subsequent resale for 12.5 million euros—also underscore the market’s dynamism. While deals worth millions dominate Vienna’s upscale districts, an authentic time capsule for music fans remains preserved in the Kamptal.
