Tropical oasis in the Burggarten
The Butterfly House is located in the northwestern wing of the Palm House in the Burggarten of the Hofburg. In 1988, the Palm House had to be closed for safety reasons and completely renovated. In the course of the renovation, the Butterfly House was also added, which you have been able to visit since 1998. Here, you can discover the diversity of the butterfly world in an area covering 280 square meters . The temperature is kept at a constant 26°C and the humidity at 80%. If you visit in winter, you should dress in layers so that you don’t get too hot.
Marvel and discover in the Butterfly House
In the Butterfly House, you can discover around 500 tropical butterflies and 150 different species. They flutter freely around you, so you are right in the middle of the action. Information boards provide you with further information, making your visit an educational experience. In the pupa box , you can spot the butterfly pupae, allowing you to see the entire life cycle.
In addition to the colorful butterflies, you will also discover tropical plants and a splashing little waterfall in the Butterfly House . The building itself will make the hearts of architecture fans and Art Nouveau enthusiasts beat faster. You can combine your visit with a stop at the café next door and a stroll through the Burggarten. You can also rent the butterfly house for events and even get married there.
