The legendary cult nightclub “Blow Up” in Pottendorf faces an uncertain future after 56 years. During an official inspection of the premises in September, deficiencies were identified, prompting the operators to close its doors for the time being. A planned party had to be canceled, and since then, the dance floor has been quiet.
Looming closure after more than five decades

The closure hit the Blow Up community hard, as the club is considered a true institution in the region. For generations, guests have taken their first steps on the dance floor here, formed friendships, and found lifelong partners. But times have changed: While the venue has only been open once or twice a month in recent years, the revenue was enough to cover day-to-day operations but not to build up significant reserves. Now, the authorities are requiring extensive renovations and expert assessments to meet safety and operational requirements.
A glimmer of hope thanks to a fundraising appeal

The operators are at least 35,000 euros short for the necessary renovation work and inspection reports—a sum the family that runs the club cannot cover out of their own pockets. In the past few months alone, over 15,000 euros have already been spent on behind-the-scenes maintenance and regulatory reports.
To avert its permanent closure, the team is now taking an unusual step and launching a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe platform. The goal is to raise the necessary funds for the renovation work together with its loyal regulars. The owners emphasize that they do not want to give up without a fight, as the club is a piece of home for many people. However, it remains to be seen whether the funds will be raised in time. If the rescue effort fails, the nightclub faces the very real threat of permanent closure. Hope springs eternal, though, and the team is doing everything it can to reopen the dance club to its guests soon.
