Whether culture, cuisine, sport or crafts: Seestadt Aspern in Vienna’s Donaustadt shows what contemporary city life means – openness, cohesion and space for new things. Before September starts in Vienna, Seestadt will once again be transformed into a hotspot for festivals, sport and creativity. And in 2025, the offer will be more diverse than ever before.
Anyone who thinks it’s just construction cranes, the lake and the U2 subway has not yet studied the calendar of events: From the art festival to the street festival to the big sports day, encounters, culture and movement will be celebrated at all levels. And the best thing is that all festivals in the lakeside city are open and mostly free of charge.
Art: SEE:Art Festival for contemporary formats
The new SEE:Art Festival kicks off this year on August 22. Until 7 September, local and international artists who live or work in the Urban Lakeside will present a program ranging from exhibitions and performances to workshops and readings. Seestadt becomes a stage or studio for everyone, as the events take place both in studios and in public spaces.

Street party: Ten years of celebrations in the Seeparkquartier
For the tenth time, the legendary Seestadt street festival invites you to join in, marvel and enjoy on August 29. Starting at noon, businesses, initiatives and associations from the neighborhood will present their offerings. You can discover everything from dance performances and fashion shows to concerts and children’s activities. The “Long Night of Viennese Markets” takes place on the same evening: The Mazzucco market stays open extra late until 11 pm and combines culinary delights and culture. The street festival becomes a meeting place for connoisseurs, creative people and the whole neighborhood.

Sports festival: exercise for all generations
In addition to art and celebrations, the festivals in Seestadt also offer plenty of exercise: Sport even gets its own space this year with the “Donaustadt Sports Festival” on September 6. After the traditional Seestadtlauf, the Elinor-Ostrom-Park will be transformed into a huge sports arena. Visitors can try out everything from rowing to sports acrobatics, from para-sports to archery at over 25 hands-on stations. Stars such as snowboarding world champion Heidi Neururer and handball legend Roland Schlinger are also expected to attend.

Cultural festival: Do:now.stadt as a guest in the lakeside city
From August 29 to September 7, the major cultural festival Do:now.stadt will be taking place at several locations in Seestadt. These include the Kulturgarage, the Seestadtstudios and art events on the promenade. Come to the jazz breakfast, visit cabaret events and farms. Seestadt benefits twice over from this year’s cultural highlights in the Danube city.
