A stroll through the 18th district takes you, almost unnoticed, back to the early 19th century. For off the main streets in Pötzleinsdorf stands a summer residence dating from 1808. It was built at that time on behalf of the banker Johann Jakob Geymüller. Today, the so-called Geymüller-Schlössel in Vienna offers you one of the rare, authentic glimpses into Austria’s Biedermeier interior design.
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, you can view the entrance area, interior rooms, and park in a 3D tour right here!
Clocks and furniture from the Biedermeier period

In the spacious rooms of the Geymüller-Schlössel, you can examine furniture from the Empire and Biedermeier periods. These pieces date from the first half of the 19th century. The furnishings are complemented by the Franz Sobek Collection, which includes countless historic Old Viennese clocks. In addition, the MAK Museum, which oversees the site, will also present the program “Zeit für Kost – Der gedeckte Tisch” (Time for Feast – The Set Table) here during the 2026 season . The exhibition is periodically interrupted by interventions by contemporary artists.

Off to the palace park

The Geymüller-Schlösselbuilding is surrounded by a sprawling park where nature and contemporary art engage in dialogue. Here you’ll encounter the sculpture “The Father Shows the Child the Way” by Hubert Schmalix and the permanently installed Skyspace “The Other Horizon” (2004) by American artist James Turrell. If you’re still looking for some nature afterward, simply take a stroll through the greenery of the adjacent Pötzleinsdorfer Schlosspark or take the convenient tram line 41 back into the city.
