Anyone who lives in Vienna is not only familiar with quiet parks and relaxing spas, but also with noise. Especially in the districts where there are many bars and clubs, the background noise often causes trouble with neighbors. Especially in old buildings with narrow spaces, it is difficult to prevent the music from the clubs on the first floor from penetrating into the apartments above. But one Viennese bar has now found a solution. The “Kleinod am Ring” has developed such a clever system that it has even won an international award for its outstanding acoustics.
Revolution in Viennese nightlife at the “Kleinod am Ring”

The “Kleinod am Ring” was particularly affected by the noise problem. The lower level of the bar measures around 20 meters in length and 6 meters in width, creating a tunnel-like environment. For the music, this meant that there was a high level of reverberation and short listening distances; people in the apartments above were virtually in the middle of the party.
However, thanks to special bass traps (membrane absorbers) and precise technology, the bass is now specifically “absorbed” in the room instead of booming into the apartments above. Over 250 square meters of absorbers on the walls and ceilings ensure that conversations and music are not lost in unpleasant reverberation. So you can even have a good conversation at parties.
The new system also has a technical control system that allows the sound to be adjusted quickly depending on the occasion. Even without a technical background, the bar staff can adjust the music accordingly , from relaxed lounge to club night.
The international acoustics prize goes to Vienna

The MONDO-DR Awards have been celebrating the best installation projects from around the world since 2017 and recognize special works that often use groundbreaking technologies. Unique projects were also honored this year. In addition to the “Kleinod am Ring” from Vienna, two other bars from New York and one from London are among the winners in the bar category.
The jury praised the “Kleinod am Ring” for its outstanding acoustics: “The bar has a user-friendly interior and shows how a challenging space can be transformed into a place where people feel comfortable.” This proves the focus on real needs: Noise protection for residents*, flexible operating modes and an intense experience for guests.
