The massive Popfest Wien 2026 will (once again) transform downtown Vienna into a huge, free concert venue in July. This year, the event will take place from July 23 to 26, 2026, with the curators pursuing a radically new concept. Among the 50 acts over four days, there won’t be a single repeat from the past 16 years, so you can look forward exclusively to new music projects and unknown talents.
Summer Hits on the Seebühne

The opening kicks off on Thursday on the famous Seebühne against a Baroque backdrop. First, Austropop pioneer Marianne Mendt will kick off the festivities alongside young talents like Anna Buchegger, while modern acts will heat up the atmosphere on the following days. So you can look forward to soul, indie, and hip-hop, as the program deliberately breaks down all genre boundaries .
On Friday, trendy rappers will take the mic, before the jazz ensemble Shake Stew takes the stage on Saturday with virtuoso energy. Admission to the entire festival is free because the city is committed to providing affordable access to high culture. However, you’ll need to arrive early to snag the best seats.

Club vibes and hidden venues

Away from the main stage, the nearby Vienna Museum transforms into a club stage in the evening. There, newcomers like Luisa Schweig will perform on the rooftop terraces, while experimental sounds fill the foyer at the same time. In addition, the Prechtlsaal at the Vienna University of Technology becomes a harder-edged venue, whereas sporty sounds play at the ping-pong floor in Resselpark.
If you want to dive deeper into the discussion, be sure to attend the exciting music talks on Friday, where current streaming metrics will be debated. Then, on Sunday, the festive finale beckons amid the baroque splendor of St. Charles’ Church. You should definitely check out the current schedule and sign up for the limited-capacity tours of the arena.
The curators spent months listening to hundreds of demos to paint an accurate picture of the music scene. While there are some familiar names, the focus is clearly on the future of the local music scene. In short: This event offers you the perfect opportunity to discover new favorite bands right on your doorstep.
