The summer heat is here and we need to cool down. Where better to spend your days off than at the lake? A dip in the best swimming lakes in Vienna gives us the necessary freshness and makes the hot days in June and July in the city bearable. Fortunately, there are plenty of them – we present our six favorites.
1st swimming pond Gerasdorf
There is plenty of space in Gerasdorf: Whether you prefer to relax in the middle of the large sunbathing lawn or are looking for a quiet spot away from it all, you’ll find it here. The Gerasdorf bathing pond is surrounded by many trees, so you don’t have to worry about a lack of shade. The entire area was recently renovated and is therefore more beautiful than ever!
📍 Location: Teichgasse, 2201 Gerasdorf
2nd Schillerwasser
You can enjoy a wonderful swim on the kilometer-long banks of Schillerwasser, Mühlwasser and Alte Naufahrt! There are plenty of free sun and shade spots here. There are many hidden bathing spots between the trees where you can feel completely undisturbed. The Naturbad Stadlau is also worth a visit, as it offers you the perfect swimming opportunity.
📍 Location: Access via Biberhaufenweg, Raffineriestraße or Kanalstraße, 1220 Vienna
3rd ocean
The name (almost) lives up to its promise: the ocean is located south of Vienna and transports us to real bathing dreams. It’s not exactly the Mediterranean, but you will find one of the most beautiful bathing lakes in Vienna. You can easily reach this place with the Wiener Lokalbahnen: The stop is right in front of the pond area and is called “Neu Guntramsdorf”. Admission is free for children and young people up to the age of 15, otherwise you pay 6 euros or just 3 euros from 3 pm.
📍 Location: Ozeanstraße 1, 2353 Guntramsdorf
4th bathing pond Laxenburg
We know Laxenburg thanks to Laxenburg Palace and its park. But the bathing lake there is also worth a visit! Here you will find a large, beautiful sunbathing lawn and shady spots. There is a toddler area with a shallow water zone and a playground with a sun awning. And for older children, the beach volleyball court provides plenty of action!
📍 Location: Neudorfer Str., 2361 Laxenburg
5th bathing pond Hirschstetten
The Hirschstetten pond is one of the most popular bathing lakes in Vienna. There can be a lot going on here! But at the same time, the lake is not so popular for no reason: there are large sunbathing lawns, a separate swimming area for children and a playground. And there are even DJs playing at the Laguna restaurant from time to time. All the bathing fun is free, so don’t miss out!
📍 Location: Spargelfeldstraße, 1220 Vienna
6. recreation area Seeschlacht (Langenzersdorf)
The bathing pond in Langenzersdorf is also known for its large sunbathing lawns. There is also a soccer pitch and a beach volleyball court. This bathing lake is also perfect for families, as there is a swimming island in the water for children and a playground. Admission is free from 5 pm!
📍 Location: Alleestraße 85, 2103 Langenzersdorf
