Starting June 25, 2026, Vienna’s open-air season will gain a wonderful green meeting place, as the Filmarchiv Austria’s shady natural garden opens its gates for 67 summer evenings. While there are many modern big-screen venues in the city, this location stands out for its wonderfully intimate atmosphere beneath the canopy of old trees. You can sit comfortably in classic theater seats and enjoy nostalgic arthouse films and classics far away from the noise of blockbuster cinemas.
A nostalgic circus vibe and hand-cranked classics

The lovingly curated program focuses primarily on timeless film classics and exciting new discoveries, ensuring that fans of sophisticated cinema history will get their money’s worth. You can also expect a colorful decor on site, intentionally reminiscent of a cozy circus garden. Finally, a real highlight will take place on July 2 and 24, when historical films will be projected at “Kino handgekurbelt, ” while well-known cult classics like “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will create a fantastic retro atmosphere.

New venues and culinary delights

In addition to the traditional Naturarena, the new Open Air Atrium will be in use for the first time this season, giving you even more space in front of the screen under the open sky. Since tickets can be conveniently purchased online or directly at the box office starting at 7:00 p.m., be sure to plan your trip in advance. A regular single ticket costs a reasonable €12, though for last-minute attendees, a few remaining tickets are still available each evening at the box office 30 minutes before the show starts.
The popular Grünstern Gartenküche will provide the perfect culinary accompaniment starting at 6:00 p.m. with tasty snacks, delicious treats, and cool refreshments. So you can relax and raise a glass with friends well before the actual film starts—which is at 9:30 p.m. in June and July. Once the sun has slowly set, the venue comes into its own, so nothing stands in the way of an atmospheric cultural evening in the Augarten —weather permitting.
