Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition in Vienna: Art That Transports You to a Forgotten World

In addition to the well-known motifs, you’ll see sketches and gain insights into Van Gogh’s use of color. The artists who influenced him are also featured. You’ll also learn how closely pain and creative energy were intertwined in his life.
Van Gogh repeatedly struggled with mental health crises and spent months in a sanatorium in Saint-Rémy. At the same time, these very years were among his most productive: it was there that he created paintings that are now among the most famous in art history.
In letters to his brother Theo, he spoke openly about doubt, loneliness, and hope, and wrote about the strength that painting gave him. The exhibition takes you back to those moments.
The surreal colors of France shine in Vienna

The wilder the colors become and the more the brushstrokes swirl, the more you understand why art meant life to van Gogh. It was his way of coping with what tormented him. That’s what makes a visit to the immersive exhibition particularly moving.
The journey takes you through Van Gogh’s final creative years: Arles, Saint-Rémy, and Auvers-sur-Oise—the places where his most famous paintings were created. Through the life-size elements, you’ll experience the world as if you were part of the painting yourself.
The exhibition is a great outing for art lovers, families, and anyone who needs a splash of color on a gray Viennese autumn day.
