Located in the heart of the 1st District, this popular museum has reopened its doors following an extensive renovation, with the exhibition space now doubled in size. With over 70 interactive exhibits spread across twice the floor space, the museum now demonstrates just how easily our human senses can be deceived in everyday life. You’ll wander from one optical illusion to the next and can take the funniest photos with your friends!
Double the floor space and new room concepts
After the renovation, visitors will move through 6 brand-new Grand Illusion Rooms, which were designed specifically for optical effects. While in some areas you seem to be standing at an angle, in others the proportions of the room change. In addition, exclusive Vienna highlights have been integrated, so that Empress Elisabeth also makes a permanent appearance in optical form.
Since the rooms, with their mind-bending angles, offer the best photo opportunities, they’re perfect for eye-catching social media posts, for example. But it’s not just about pictures: interactive puzzles and logic challenges will also put your thinking skills to the test. The average 60- to 90-minute tour will fly by in no time.

Interactive stations for young and old

In addition, the redesigned environment challenges visitors of all ages, as many exhibits can be touched and tried out firsthand. Although some optical illusions may seem familiar, new interactive effects create completely unexpected impressions. Finally, distorting mirrors and floating elements ensure that your usual sense of perspective is thrown off balance.
In addition, there is accessible entry and discounted group tickets for groups of 10 or more. Although crowds are particularly heavy on weekends, guests are spread out much more evenly across the expanded space. In any case, even when the place is packed, a visit remains an entertaining spatial experience and a successful outing.
