The first weekend in October traditionally marks the grand finale of Vienna’s wine festival season. After all, on October 3 and 4, 2026, local winemakers will once again be serving their fresh, still-fermenting wine.
For the festival, the entire length of Stammersdorfer Kellergasse in 1210 Vienna will be completely closed to traffic. This transforms the historic street into a spacious pedestrian zone, allowing you to stroll leisurely from cellar to cellar. While there are numerous tables and benches right on the street, you’ll also find quiet outdoor dining areas behind the cellars that offer a direct view of the entire city of Vienna.

Culinary Delights and Fair-Day Atmosphere

In addition to tasting the new wine directly at the winemakers’ cellars, the culinary focus is primarily on hearty regional Heurigen fare and delicacies. While the adults sample their first glasses, the entire street is filled with the intense aroma of freshly roasted chestnuts. Plus, the hot chestnuts warm you up especially well from the inside, since it often gets noticeably cooler in the evenings during fall.
An official program of events also ensures a true Kirtag atmosphere, as the Stammersdorf Music Society provides musical accompaniment for the festive opening on Saturday. Even while the adults relax with a glass of wine, the little ones are guaranteed not to get bored thanks to a bounce house, a puppet show, and a carousel. Although the festival weekend doesn’t start until 1:00 p.m. each day, the celebrations continue into the late evening hours, around 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.
If the weather takes a sudden turn, you can simply retreat into the traditional wine cellars. That way, your trip to the countryside definitely won’t be rained out—it’ll remain a fixed event on the fall calendar for the whole family. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend traveling by public transportation so you can enjoy the young wine completely carefree.
