Anyone who tends to an old fruit tree in their own garden knows the problem: it’s often unclear exactly which traditional variety it is. From October 9–11, 2026, you can solve this mystery right in the heart of Vienna’s 1st district. The 10th anniversary of the Vienna Autumn Days invites you to three informative days centered on harvest culture and nature .
In the historic glasshouse, you’ll find an exhibition featuring over 60 apple varieties as well as various wild fruits. On all three days, experts from the Streuobst Österreich association will be on hand to identify the specimens you bring in—free of charge. All you need to do is bring at least three ripe fruits from a single tree. It’s important that the apples remain unwashed and unpolished, as the characteristics of the skin are crucial for the analysis.
Live demonstrations and expert advice for the garden

As a new feature for the tenth edition, visitors will gain practical insights into tree care. Demonstrations on fruit tree pruning will take place daily at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Professionals will explain, right there on the spot, the optimal time for pruning and what’s important for a clean cut. In addition, the experts will answer questions about tree care and disease prevention.
