Disney has its princes and princesses—Vienna has its very own royal stories. Right in the heart of the Austrian capital stands a magnificent palace whose past could almost have sprung from a fairy tale. The Palais Coburg looks back on a fascinating history filled with European royal families, extraordinary architecture, and surprising secrets. And soon, a very different kind of magic will come to life here.
On Sunday, October 11, “Candlelight: Disney Love Songs” will transform the historic palace into a romantic concert setting. In the warm glow of thousands of candles, the most beautiful love melodies from beloved Disney classics will be performed—blurring the lines between real royal stories and enchanting fairy tales for one evening.

A true fairytale castle in the heart of Vienna
What is now one of Vienna’s most elegant addresses began in the 19th century as a princely residence. The House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was closely connected to numerous European royal houses. Among their famous relatives were Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, and King Leopold I of Belgium. Even today, suites named after royal figures serve as a reminder of these extraordinary family ties.
But the palace has even more to tell: On July 14, 2015, world history was made here with the signing of the international nuclear agreement with Iran. Hidden beneath the building is also an impressive wine cellar containing around 60,000 bottles.
Events at Vienna’s Palais Coburg
The Palais Coburg delights visitors with a diverse program of events that goes far beyond classical concerts. In addition to atmospheric candlelight concerts like “Disney Love Songs,” the venue also hosts musical matinees, exclusive wine tastings, culinary events, and festive receptions. Particularly popular are the Coburg Matinees, the “jugend & stil” concert series for young musicians, and guided tours of the historic wine cellars. The magnificent Palais also offers an extraordinary setting for weddings and private celebrations.

What makes the Palais Coburg in Vienna so special?
Built between 1840 and 1845, the Palais Coburg is one of the city’s most magnificent historic aristocratic palaces. With its imposing columned façade, elegant interiors, and exceptional location atop the remains of Vienna’s city fortifications, it combines Imperial-era architecture with centuries of history. Today, the palace houses an exclusive luxury hotel and also serves as a venue for cultural events and special concert experiences.
Why is the Palais Coburg also called “Spargelburg”?
The palace owes its unusual nickname , “Spargelburg” (Asparagus Castle), to the strikingly slender columns on its facade. When it was built, these reminded the Viennese people of asparagus stalks—and so the magnificent aristocratic residence was given a name that still brings a smile to people’s faces today.
Can you visit the Palais Coburg even without attending a concert?
Yes! Today, the Palais Coburg houses a luxury hotel with dining options. Even without a concert ticket, visitors can enjoy select areas open to the public, such as restaurants or bars. For other areas, a reservation or participation in an event is generally required.
