Austria’s largest festival for new music is deliberately breaking with traditional concert conventions this year. From October 30 to November 30, 2026, the city will transform into a giant soundscape. The organizers will be hosting events at a total of 31 different venues throughout Vienna. And it’s not just the usual concert halls—unconventional venues like the historic Zacherlfabrik or the old Art Nouveau theater will become the event’s main stages.

From the Landfill to the Zacherl Factory
Musically, the focus is clearly on innovation and fresh ideas. The festival’s scale is impressive: a total of 82 world premieres are on the program throughout the month. Added to these are another 27 Austrian premieres, making the event one of the largest of its kind internationally.
The audience can look forward to brand-new works by well-known names in the contemporary music scene. Among others, artists such as Mark Andre, Cezary Duchnowski, and Jean-Luc Hervé will present their latest compositions. Anyone open to unconventional structures will be treated to a massive amount of fresh music over these four weeks.
Forests and Rivers to Listen To
Those seeking tranquility will find the “Sound Map of the Danube” installation at the MAK Forum, which takes you to over 50 acoustic locations along the Danube. Another exciting stop on November 23 and 24, 2026, will bring authentic field recordings from the Lainzer Tiergarten to the stage at the Theater am Werk in the Kabelwerk.
