A trip to the Viennese vineyards is certainly one of the most popular weekend activities for Viennese residents. However, since this wine tavern —called Mayer am Nussberg —is strictly a fair-weather spot, you should definitely plan your visit for a sunny day. The well-known City Hiking Trail 1 leads you directly from the Kahlenberg station through the picturesque vineyards down to a cozy spot surrounded by greenery.
Gemischter Satz and hearty delicacies
Once you’ve reached your destination, you can look forward to first-class wines from our own vineyard. Try, for example, the classic Viennese “Gemischter Satz” DAC for €4.90 per Achterl or a non-alcoholic wine for €4.90. What’s more, you can spend a wonderful afternoon sipping a refreshing Limoncello Spritzer for €7.90 right in the middle of the vineyards—especially since the view over the city is spectacular.
Hearty delicacies provide the necessary sustenance during your break. The classic winemaker’s snack for €17.90 or the Nussberglaberl for €9.80 in a crispy sourdough roll are the perfect accompaniments to the wine. There are even vegetarian options on the menu, such as the cheese platter for €17.90, and you can conveniently order your food via the app and then pick it up at the App Corner.

Take the Heurigenexpress through the Vienna Woods
By the way, the journey there is a little adventure in itself. From April 1 through October 31, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the nostalgic Heurigenexpress takes you directly from the U4 Heiligenstadt station to your destination. However, you can also take tram line D to Nußdorf and walk up the hill for 30 minutes from there when the sun is shining.
Since this is an open-air venue, there’s no alternative location in case of rain. If you want to secure one of the coveted spots, you should therefore make a reservation online at least 24 hours in advance. Spontaneous visits are still possible, provided the weather cooperates and you can find a free spot in the traditional vineyard.
