Handmade quality in the second generation
Behind the street food is the family-run business Kalami Delikatessen, which has been operating under this name at the market since 2016, now in its second generation. Currently, the business is struggling with a dramatic drop in sales and resulting insolvency due to a major construction site right in front of the shop, according to the owner. However, there are no plans to close; the stand will remain open. Whether the business will truly flourish again now lies in the hands of the creditors and your loyal visits. Given the prices for the quality, though, that’s truly not a difficult task.
The finest dips, cheese, and olives
In addition to the falafel, there’s plenty more to choose from in the display case, such as refreshing drinks and authentic Egyptian babaghanuj. It’s also well worth stopping by for hummus with eggplant or the antipasti prepared fresh daily. Austrian peppers stuffed with house-made cheese sit seamlessly alongside cream cheese from Bulgaria and olives from Lebanon, Italy, and Greece.
What’s hiding on the shelves behind the counter

If you enjoy cooking, Kalami offers around 200 house-bottled and airtight-packed spices for fish, salads, or your next barbecue. For a sweet treat , there are stuffed king dates, roasted nuts, dried fruit, and fresh baklava varieties from a small bakery, as well as homemade cakes from time to time. If you can’t make it to the 6th district, you can also find the owner and his selection at a second stand at the Alszeilenmarkt.
