Anyone who follows a plant-based diet knows the old stereotype: you just chew on lettuce leaves. In Vienna, the reality has long been quite different. Hidden among outdoor dining areas and narrow alleys are spots that completely deconstruct and reinvent the concept of plant-based dining. Whether you want to fill up on a hearty goulash or are just looking for a fresh snack.
Velani
A genuine local pub vibe without any meat. In the 12th district, you can get onion roast, baked schnitzel, and fluffy Kaiserschmarrn in all-plant-based versions. The portions are generous and will keep you full for half the day.
The Hummus Workshop
In the 2nd district, it’s all about chickpeas. The hummus is freshly pureed daily, served with warm pita and crispy falafel, which are a beautiful green on the inside thanks to plenty of herbs. Not the entire menu is vegan, but there’s a wide variety of options.
Eh Wurst
After a few drinks in the 7th district, nighttime cravings often strike. That’s exactly what Vienna’s first fully vegan sausage stand—located right in front of the Volkstheater—is for. Here, you can get plant-based Käsekrainer or Bosna sausages with plenty of onions and mustard served right on a paper plate—perfect if you need to take a quick break on the sidewalk to rest and refuel.
Jola
Right in the heart of the First District, Jonathan and Larissa (Jola for short) show how excellent plant-based fine dining works. Here, you won’t find a traditional menu, but rather a ready-made surprise menu served at a Michelin-star level. The ingredients come almost exclusively from regional producers and are creatively fermented, pickled, or roasted.
Bio Pizzeria Vero

If you’re into Neapolitan-style pizza, this is the place for you. The sourdough rests for at least 48 hours. It’s topped with fresh vegetables and a high-quality vegan cheese that actually stretches into strings on the hot pizza. Not everything is completely vegan, but a lot of it is.
Ährlich
Here you’ll find warm bowls and wraps completely free of hidden sugars or artificial additives. It’s the perfect lunch if you need a quick energy boost but don’t want to doze off at your desk afterward.
Kantine Thai Restaurant

Authentic Thai cuisine right next to the Naschmarkt. You can easily order the pad Thai or green curry here in a vegan version with crispy tofu and fresh cilantro.
Wiener Deewan

“Pay as you wish” in the 9th district. The Pakistani buffet offers five curries daily, three of which are always completely vegan (mostly dhal, chickpeas, and potatoes). Just pile rice and bread onto your plate until you’re full.
Viennese Delight Dumplings

Whether sweet or savory, they’re rolling out the goods here in Josefstadt. For a quick bite, they’ll pack the vegan crackling dumplings or classic nougat dumplings right into a paper bag for you to take on the go.
Table

If you’re looking for a real pub atmosphere, head to Schlösselgasse in the 8th district. The Tisch serves hearty Austrian home-style cooking in a completely plant-based form. The hearty dumplings and spicy goulash taste absolutely delicious and will leave you completely full.
