You should definitely visit this spot on the outskirts of Vienna! Although many passersby have no idea what a turbulent history lies behind the Neo-Baroque façade, this is precisely where the last studio of a world-famous painter is located . We’re talking , of course, about Gustav Klimt and his Klimt Villa, which he used as a studio. Initially, the building was merely a simple, single-story garden house before it was extensively expanded in the Neo-Baroque style in 1923.
Reconstructed History in a Vienna Residential District
However, the great master did not live to see this renovation, as he had already passed away in 1918. Nevertheless, his former studios were painstakingly and faithfully reconstructed for visitors based on contemporary photographs . Here you can tour the original reception room, where the creation of world-famous paintings such as “The Bride” and “Adam and Eve” is vividly brought to life.
Enjoying coffee under chestnut trees and historic roses
In addition, the sprawling grounds invite you to take a leisurely stroll, provided the weather cooperates during your visit. Genuine Damask roses are blooming in the garden once again—varieties painstakingly recreated by experts based on historical specimens. From May through September, a cozy garden café opens here on weekends in the shade of old chestnut trees.
