A strenuous day in Vienna often calls for a proper break. If you want to do something good for your joints, you don’t have to drive for hours to get there. Since the region south of Vienna is extremely rich in healing springs, you’ll find a historic spa oasis right in Baden called Römertherme Baden. After all, it has been known for centuries for its special water. So pack your swimwear.
The “yellow gold” beneath the glass roof
The centerpiece of the facility is Europe’s largest free-hanging glass roof, allowing you to relax across a total area of 3,500 square meters regardless of the weather. A wide variety of areas are available to you. For example, you can swim laps in the 26–28-degree-Celsius sports pool or relax in the wellness pool, which is up to 32 degrees Celsius. There’s also a separate children’s wading pool for the youngest guests, while adults can unwind in the 36-degree-Celsius hot tub.

Sauna area and athletic activities
The absolute centerpiece of the facility, however, is the so-called “Schwefelwandl” in the outdoor area. Here, the “yellow gold” bubbles up from a depth of 1,000 meters directly into the outdoor pool, which is heated to 34 to 36 degrees. Because the healing water comes from the historic Marienquelle and Josefsquelle springs, it has been proven to have a positive effect on the body. It lowers cholesterol levels and relieves joint pain, while also serving as a natural anti-aging remedy.
Rates and practical information
If you’re focused on the saunas, book access to the wellness area for an additional 11 euros. There, a total of seven different saunas and a refreshing plunge pool await you. Although the water is clearly the main attraction, you can work out beforehand at the adjacent fitness center starting at 7:30 a.m. Afterward, the on-site restaurant will provide a hearty snack before you head home relaxed.
For a regular visit, adults pay 19.80 euros for three hours on weekdays. On weekends and holidays, the same ticket costs 22.80 euros. The water park is open daily starting at 10:00 a.m., and closing time is set for 9:30 p.m. This leaves plenty of time for a full-day outing, so you can make the most of your day.
