When life takes an unexpected turn, it can sometimes give rise to a wonderfully vibrant place. After being suddenly laid off, the founder of the new charming café in 1180 called Malli didn’t bury her head in the sand—instead, she opened a colorful retreat in Währing. Although the launch was unplanned, a true labor of love now shines brightly in the 18th district. After all, she wanted to create a very personal space for the neighborhood.
Anyone who walks into the café immediately notices the cozy living-room atmosphere. Carefully curated vintage furniture is scattered throughout, with thoughtful, artistic details waiting in every single corner. Since everything has been designed with so much passion, you’ll feel absolutely no pressure to consume while you’re here—you can simply relax.
specialty coffee and creative toast in the neighborhood

In addition to classic flat whites, the menu offers top-notch fair-trade specialty coffee. If you’re feeling a bit hungry, you should try the unconventional kimchi toast, which is cleverly served with tasty peanut butter. There are also freshly baked cakes that pair perfectly with the hot drinks.

A vibrant gathering place for creative minds

However, the concept isn’t just about serving food and drinks—it’s more of an interactive neighborhood hangout. That’s why the colorful space regularly hosts social crochet nights and literary book clubs. In addition, Café Malli collaborates with local artists, so the decor is constantly changing.
If you have a green thumb, you’ll also benefit from a very special initiative at the café. During regular business hours, you can bring your own plants and cuttings to easily swap them with other like-minded people right there. So it’s worth the trip just for a little expert chat among passionate plant lovers.
