When the asphalt in Vienna starts to sizzle, we’re inevitably drawn to the cooler regions of Lower Austria. The Waldviertel, in particular, offers ideal conditions for a day trip to escape the oppressive heat and breathe in some fresh country air. This June, a special open-air experience awaits you in the village of Armschlag, cleverly combining nature, cuisine, and great entertainment.
As soon as the sun disappears behind the hills, a cozy traveling cinema makes a stop in the village of Mohndorf. Over three evenings, you can look forward to a selection of films shown right in the village.
Movie nights and natural idyll
The series kicks off on June 13 with the film “Dancing Queen, ” followed by the comedy “A Slice of the Pie” on June 20. To cap it all off, “Happiness on a Scale of 1 to 10” will be shown on June 27. If you arrive early, you can explore the extensive cycling and hiking trails around the village, which lead you through the peaceful Waldviertel countryside .

Delightful breaks and puzzle fun
Before the projector starts rolling in the evening, there’s plenty else to do in the village of Armschlag. If you’d rather not walk, you can book a relaxing tractor ride through the fields starting in June. For this, you’ll need a group of at least six people and must register in advance.
Alternatively, you can spontaneously try out the free mobile puzzle rally across the poppy village, which works entirely without prior registration. As we all know, fresh air makes you hungry, which is why a visit to the local Mohnwirt with its consistently warm cuisine should be firmly planned. There, hearty dishes and, of course, the famous sweet poppy seed noodles make their way onto the plates.
If you want to take this distinctive flavor home with you, stop by the poppy farm shop from Wednesday through Sunday. For groups of eight or more, you can also book a comprehensive poppy tasting for 14 euros, which includes ten different products and a short film screening.
