Anyone looking for a quick way to cool off and soak up the sun during the Viennese summer often ends up at crowded outdoor pools or has to pay for expensive club memberships. We’ve found an alternative, because a new dining concept on the Old Danube offers several sun loungers on a lawn right on the banks of the Danube, where you can comfortably spend your day with a few snacks and drinks. So you don’t have to spend any money to enjoy the sun on a free lounger. However, the PSV Bad next door charges a fee and is primarily available to members of the club.
Barbecue kitchen and lounge chairs with no admission fee
Although the new area is located right next to the well-known Polizeibad, you won’t pay a cent for direct access to the water here. There, you’ll find comfortable lounge chairs in the spacious chill-out area as well as a terrace right on the water. Because the entire site is fully accessible, the spot is perfect for absolutely everyone.
The operators focus on a fresh grill kitchen that serves up fresh fish and hearty steaks. The menu also offers plenty of vegetarian options, so there’s something for everyone. That’s why it’s worth a visit for both a quick lunch and a leisurely dinner with friends.

Perfect skyline view and easy access
As the sun slowly sets, the spot offers an unobstructed view of the illuminated Vienna skyline. It’s now the perfect place for relaxed summer evenings with refreshing spritz variations. However, you should leave your four-legged friend at home, as dogs are not allowed anywhere on the premises.
You also don’t necessarily need a car to get there, although there is a small parking lot right in front of the entrance. After all, the location is just a 10-minute walk from the U1 Kaisermühlen or U2 Donaustadtbrücke stations. So nothing stands in the way of a spontaneous after-work drink by the water. If you get really hungry, they’re busy grilling here daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A tasty detour here is always worth it for a quick break.
