Vienna shines with its diverse selection of museums, ranging from classic art exhibitions to curious snow globe collections. Special events such as Museum Night and Vienna District Museum Day take place regularly, offering you the opportunity to explore several museums at once. You can look forward to the latter again this weekend, when you can stroll through the exhibitions free of charge and take part in the numerous program items.
Insights into the city’s history

The Vienna District Museums Day is being held for the 19th time this year. On Sunday, March 8, the museums of all 23 districts will open their doors to you and present various exhibitions related to the respective district under the motto “Water – Nature and Culture.” Immerse yourself in the city’s history and learn more about Vienna’s different neighborhoods. In addition to the 23 district museums, you can also visit six special museums, such as the Circus and Clown Museum. Since Vienna District Museum Day falls on International Women’s Day this year, there will also be related events dealing with topics related to women in society and culture.
You can visit the individual museums from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and do not have to pay an admission fee. This year, there will of course be a stamp pass for Vienna District Museum Day again, which you can use to certify your visit. You can send this directly to ARGE to receive small gifts. Or you can keep it for a while and use it for other events, such as the “Wiener Lenz” (Vienna Spring).

The offerings and programs of the respective museums vary depending on their location. The focus is on the respective district and its history. The Innere Stadt District Museum, for example, deals with the district’s water supply, while the Leopoldstadt District Museum explores how the Danube came to Vienna. In Mariahilf, you can learn more about the laundry women, and in Simmering, there are water stories for you to enjoy.
In addition to the respective exhibitions, you can look forward to other program items such as readings and music. Children will also get their money’s worth and can try their hand at various water experiments. In Leopoldstadt , the play “Wien Frauen 1900” (Vienna Women 1900) awaits you as a successful conclusion to Vienna Women’s Week. The entire program for Vienna District Museum Day can be found here.
