Secondhand shopping without cars jostling you from behind: Entire blocks in the 5th district will belong exclusively to pedestrians for one day. On September 5, 2026, the Vienna-Margareten Merchants’ Association will celebrate a major anniversary. Since the neighborhood has been hosting this popular flea market for exactly 25 years, this year’s event will be significantly expanded.
Although the venue has always been well-attended, this year’s XXL edition offers significantly more space to stroll around. To make this possible, the organizers are closing off the entire Margaretenstraße to all traffic. This means you can stroll from booth to booth in complete relaxation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and hunt for real rarities.

DJs and live concerts instead of street noise
In addition to the classic flea market stalls at Margaretenplatz, there’s also a strong focus on local culture. While you browse for well-preserved vintage items or old treasures, DJs from Margareten will provide the perfect musical backdrop. So you won’t have to shop in silence—instead, you’ll be treated to great music right on the street.
There’s also another highlight lined up, so even an afternoon visit will be well worth it. At exactly 3 p.m., @lewmali will play a live concert right in the middle of the stalls. If you need a quick break from browsing, you can relax there with a few snacks and enjoy the music.
Authentic neighborhood vibe
Anyone looking for porcelain, clothing, or books is sure to find what they’re looking for among the vast selection. Since many local residents participate, the flea market has an authentic Viennese neighborhood vibe. As a result, it’s almost impossible to avoid a cozy chat or two at the stalls.
Although it’s a long day, you should still arrive early enough before the exhibitors’ best items sell out. After all, the spacious grounds offer plenty of room for relaxed shopping without the usual crowds. Plus, admission is completely free, so nothing stands in the way of a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood.
