If you want to get some fresh air and experience animals up close on the weekend , you don’t have to push your way through dense crowds. Right in the heart of Donaustadt lies a 15,000-square-meter area that offers families a relaxed alternative to a traditional zoo. Here, urban nature meets rural coziness. We’re talking about the Vienna Kids Farm. Once there, you’ll often be greeted directly by the owner, Susanne Fernesi, who runs the grounds on the edge of the Donau-Auen National Park with great passion. With her 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, she creates a truly welcoming atmosphere, while you explore the farm for an admission fee of €6 (children pay €4).
Alpacas, pigs, and plenty of open space

Unlike in many regular parks, the animal residents in the Lobau have plenty of space. You’ll encounter a colorful mix of cows, sheep, donkeys, and horses grazing peacefully in the meadows. A real highlight are the curious Valais Blackneck goats and alpacas, who are delighted by your visit.
If you’re looking for direct interaction, you can buy a portion of animal feed for €2 per person. With a little luck, you might even meet Sissi, the Vietnamese pig, who is often the center of attention on the farm. Also good to know: Dogs are allowed on a leash and can easily accompany you on this outing.

If you’re planning something special, you can rent the 14-meter-high teepee tent for private parties. With a campfire and a large seminar room, the grounds offer the perfect setting for a relaxed children’s birthday party.
Sunbathing and picnicking by the water

After touring the farm, it’s worth staying in the area a little longer. Just a short walk away, the Mühlwasser stream and the Panozzalacke lake await you. The green riverbanks offer the perfect setting to relax on the grass and enjoy a hearty snack.
The calm waters are an excellent spot for anyone looking to escape the city noise for a few hours. As soon as the temperatures are high enough, you can easily go for a swim at the natural swimming spots. Be sure to pack your swimwear and turn your visit into a full day out in nature.
