“Women belong in the kitchen.” Unfortunately, some people still believe in this outdated cliché. However, if you look at the world’s Michelin-starred restaurants and TV cooking shows, the picture is quite different. There, Gordon Ramsays and Johann Lafers dominate, and suddenly cooking is a man’s job after all. Markterei is challenging this contradiction by dedicating the entire month of March to women in the restaurant industry in honor of International Women’s Day. The focus is not solely on the actual preparation of food, but on all aspects of the industry.
A whole month dedicated to women

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, Vienna Women’s Week is taking place for the third time this year, with numerous events organized by and for women. If one week isn’t enough for you, then you should stop by Markterei. Under the motto “Frauen.Machen.Markt.” ( Women. Make. Market.), it is dedicating the entire month to women in the catering and food industry in order to highlight and honor their work. The format was developed in collaboration with Karin Stöttinger from Female Chefs and focuses on a different aspect of the industry each weekend, shining a spotlight on the protagonists.
Before the first themed weekend kicks off on March 6, there will be a grand opening event on Thursday, March 5, with pâtisserie chef Jaimy Reisinger. She will present her new fine dining concept, BIJA-DINING, which incorporates elements and techniques from pâtisserie. The dessert-inspired menu combines sweet and savory flavors in a new way.
📅 Date: March 5, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
💶 Price information: Starting at €35
