Right in the heart of Vienna’s 10th district , the dishes take an exciting path, as the ingredients here come from the best farms and producers—and even the bread and yogurt are homemade! The only seasoning used on the meat—which is freshly prepared daily —is pure natural salt. While that may sound like very little, this strict minimalism ensures an authentic and natural flavor that Viennese diners trust at Ferhat Döner.
Elaborate craftsmanship over an open fire

The dedicated kitchen team uses only Austrian pasture-raised beef for the hearty skewers, which are then slowly sizzled over a real charcoal grill. This gives the specialty a subtle smoky note and a particularly flavorful crust. In addition, the owner completely avoids artificial additives, so you can enjoy the full flavor of the meat without compromise.
The whole dish is served in house-made sourdough bread, which also noticeably enhances the texture. As a result, it comes as no surprise to the local scene that Falstaff magazine named the restaurant the undisputed number one in 2024 and 2025. Consequently, many food critics and experts now call this creation the best döner in the world. The döner also regularly goes viral on YouTube and in the press.

Unique yogurt sauce made from Alpine sheep’s milk

Aside from that, there’s a true culinary world first to try here. Because owner Ferhat Yildirim rejects any form of industrial thickening agents, he produces his own natural sheep’s milk yogurt made from Austrian Alpine sheep’s milk. This results in a particularly protein-rich ingredient, as the regional farmers he partners with use absolutely no additives in their livestock farming.
If you’re looking for other dishes besides the meat, you’ll find plenty of options here as well. Although the focus is clearly on beef, the team prepares a warming lentil soup daily for 5.50 euros. Just as with the main courses, uncompromising quality is a priority here as well—whether you’d prefer a serving of rice for 1.90 euros or classic fries for 4.50 euros as a side dish.
The special sheep’s yogurt is then mixed into a homemade ayran for 3.30 euros. If you’re hungry, the Small Sandwich (120 grams) starts at 8.50 euros, while the filling Large version costs 16.90 euros. In short, it’s always worth the trip to Favoriten, especially since you can order Turkish rice pudding for 4.90 euros as a sweet finale. If you’re not familiar with this snack spot—which is hard to believe—then you should definitely give it a try!
