Just about an hour’s drive from Vienna, in the Lilienfeld district, a truly wonderful alternative awaits you. The Scharbachbad natural adventure pool in Türnitz offers completely chlorine-free swimming fun in the Mostviertel region.
Natural purification without any chlorine
The best thing about the Türnitz natural swimming area is definitely the crystal-clear water. Since the water is purified here purely biologically using plant filters, you won’t find the typical outdoor pool smell here. Instead, the water is gently circulated through large reed beds and water lilies. This keeps the natural swimming pool pleasantly soft and ensures it doesn’t sting your eyes at all. So if you have sensitive skin, you’ll be in extremely good hands there for a long day of swimming.
You can relax and lounge around on the 658-square-meter grounds while the little ones build sandcastles in the separate sandplay area. While there aren’t any massive slides, there is a deep diving pool with water up to 3.6 meters deep. If you’d rather have solid ground under your feet after swimming, you can simply hit a few balls on the facility’s own beach volleyball court.

A relaxing getaway to the Mostviertel region
Getting there from Vienna is absolutely doable—whether by car or via public transit (train to Lilienfeld and then bus 690). As soon as you arrive at Badweg, you’ll immediately notice how reasonable the prices remain. For a moderate daily admission fee, you get access to an extremely well-maintained facility. Plus, all children under 6 get in for free, which is easy on the wallet.
You can also grab a cold refreshment or a delicious ice cream at the local kiosk. All in all, the atmosphere here remains family-friendly and wonderfully laid-back. Before you head out, though, be sure to check the weather forecast. The gates are open from May through September only when the weather is truly nice, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Even so, the trip is well worth it, because swimming right among the rolling hills is simply a wonderful experience.
