The thermometer in Vienna regularly climbs to around 40 degrees, so shaded spots and ways to cool off are in high demand. In just 1 hour and 20 minutes by car, you can reach a renaturalized area that was created from a former open-pit mine. The water quality in the turquoise-blue mining lake in Langau is considered excellent, as the surrounding area has developed naturally over the years.

The local recreation center caters to those looking for a quick bite. The lakeside restaurant serves light snacks, cold drinks, and ice cream. But the menu also features regional pastries and quark specialties to keep all day-trippers well-fed.

Those looking for more action can visit the Langau Water Ski Center, where the WSC Tulln offers water ski lessons and water skiing trips. Furthermore, the signposted “Tut gut” hiking trails invite you to take short walks before heading back into the cool water. If you’d rather take it easy, the spots along the lakeshore are perfect.
That’s why the trip is also a good value. A day pass is available for €4.50 for adults or €3.50 after 1:30 p.m. Admission is free for children 6 and under.
Older children pay the regular rate of €2.50 or €2.00 in the afternoon. For families, there’s also a family pass for €11.00, which covers two adults and three children. Finally, the area is located near the Czech border, making it perfect for hot summer days.
