At a constant 19 degrees Celsius, the water flows directly from the mountain here. That’s because this spa in the municipality of Bad Fischau-Brunn uses no heated tap water, but rather pure, untreated spring water from the foothills. Accordingly, the summer season — which runs through September 27, 2026 —offers a refreshing escape from the heat at the Fischau Thermal Baths in Lower Austria.
Even the Celts and Romans appreciated the opportunity to cool off here before Archduke Rainer purchased the facility in 1898. He had the grounds transformed into an elegant spa resort with medicinal baths. Ever since, the sprawling grounds—with their wooden cabins featuring a fretsaw-style design —have exuded a palpable sense of Austro-Hungarian nostalgia for day visitors starting at €13.30.

Separate pools and Mediterranean cuisine
The centerpiece of the Fischau Thermal Baths is the historic men’s pool from 1899, which is now open to all water lovers. Because moral standards were very strict at the time, a separate women’s pool was subsequently built between 1925 and 1928. Both pools benefit enormously from the excellent water quality of the thermal springs.
There is still a historic, ankle-deep preliminary pool to admire there today. This allowed the ladies to gently acclimate to the cool 19-degree water temperature without having to climb directly into the pool via the steep wooden ladders.
If your stomach starts to growl after a swim, Chef Thomas Gularas at the Bad Restaurant will treat you to delicious Greek-Mediterranean dishes. While classic snacks are available here, the culinary focus is clearly on specialties from the charcoal grill and fresh fish. You can also visit this restaurant without purchasing a pool admission ticket.
Pure nature and culture on Blue Monday
While children romp around in the separate area with a sandbox and wading pool, those seeking peace and quiet will find plenty of natural shade on the Bergwiese, Zwetschkenwiese, or Birkenwiese. In addition, a massive 25,000 liters of fresh water gush through the entire historic complex every minute.
As a result, the water completely renews itself up to four times a day, without the need for mechanical pumps or chemicals. In addition, be sure to take a look at the hidden rock grotto and waterfall during your walk—it has remained almost unchanged since its discovery.
For the culture lovers among you , the municipality also offers the well-established “Blue Monday” event series. On several dates—for example, in August 2026 with Julian le Play—you can enjoy the finest live music right at the outdoor pool.
