Rosenburg Castle stands majestically perched on a steep cliff high above the Kamp River in Lower Austria. It is one of the state’s best-known and best-preserved castle complexes. The complex was originally built in the 12th century as a medieval defensive fortress. Its first documented mention dates back to the year 1175.
Over the centuries, the fortress underwent a fundamental transformation. In the 16th century, the owners at the time had the castle converted into a magnificent Renaissance palace. Despite this more peaceful architecture, the fortified walls and the deep moat were preserved, which to this day give Rosenburg its unique appearance, visible from afar.
