The Austrian national dish that we all love requires a lot of finesse. So if you want to make sure the meat forms its characteristic ripples in the breading as it sizzles in the pan, it’s worth visiting the real pros. On Vienna’s famous Ringstrasse, you can learn these skills in a two-hour hands-on workshop.
A Viennese institution steeped in history

The Meissl & Schadn has been located at Schubertring 12 since 2017. Even before that, the name was already legendary, as the original Hotel Meissl & Schadn at Neuer Markt 2 was completely destroyed during the liberation of Vienna in 1945.
Today, the restaurant focuses on upscale Viennese cuisine and showcases traditional cooking methods in its open salon kitchen. However, if you’d rather not get behind the stove yourself, you can also simply drop by for a meal.
Let’s get cooking!
Although you can step right up to the stove every Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., you’ll first raise a glass with a refreshing welcome drink. Afterward, the expert kitchen team will show you how to properly pound and turn the meat. It’s important to know the right techniques so that the breading turns out perfectly golden brown.

Tasting and Gifts
Once you’ve finished cooking, you’ll of course get to taste your creation right away. The group meal , including one additional drink , is included in the price of €105 per person. You’ll also receive the book “Schnitzellove” as a fitting gift to take home — because, after all, theory is important too.
Since the workshop takes place right in the restaurant kitchen, there’s only a very limited number of spots available. So it’s best to give them a quick call before you head over to reserve one of the coveted spots early. If demand is high, you should also plan well in advance.
